This section provides pictures made mainly for elementary-level Japanese-language education.
There are seven types of pictures: ‘Elementary Vocabulary Pictures’, School Life Pictures, ‘Seasonal Pictures with Erin’, ‘UME Pictures’, ‘Pictures by Sakura & Musashi’, ‘Kyokasho o Tsukuro Pictures’and ‘CASTEL/J Pictures’ .
Elementary Vocabulary Pictures
These are illustrations for beginner level vocabulary produced by The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa. There are 308 illustrations for verbs and 129 for adjectives. There is a black-and-white version and a color version of each illustration.

School Life Pictures
These pictures are used in "Challenge with Erin", a free app for
Japanese-language learners produced by The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute,
Urawa. There are 251 pictures of ‘School Life’, ‘Daily Life’, ‘Family, Job’, ‘Adjectives’, ‘Erin, Honigon and N21-J’ and ‘Manga with Speech Bubbles’.

Seasonal Pictures with Erin
These pictures were used in the user’s special download calendar on ‘Erin’s Challenge! I Can Speak Japanese.’. There are 73 pictures containing the characters Erin, Honigon, and N21-J, and 132 pictures related to the season.
‘Erin’s Challenge! I Can Speak Japanese.’ is a web site for Japanese language study with a story featuring overseas student, Erin, who takes on various challenges using Japanese in, for example, a Japanese high school, host family home, and Japanese town.

UME Pictures
These pictures are used in UME, MOMO, and SAKURA, Japanese-language textbooks for secondary education in India produced by The Japan Foundation, New Delhi. There are 512 color pictures. These are categorized into nine: ‘school life’, ‘greetings and expressions’, ‘seasons, nature and weather’, ‘food and drinks’, ‘actions and feelings’, ‘animals and plants’, ‘places’, ‘people, body’ and ‘objects, tools’.

Pictures by Sakura & Musashi
These are illustrations produced for use in Japanese-language learning that are useful for understanding Japanese society, culture, nature, and Japanese people’s lifestyle. They are divided into eight categories: "food and diet," "events," "sports and entertainment," "school life," "daily life," "health," "work," and "others." They can also be searched for by season: "spring," "summer," "autumn," and "winter."
Please note that the "Pictures by Sakura & Musashi" are the teaching materials that were posted as "Sakura & Musashi" contributions in "Forum," and in the "JFS Reading Activity."

Kyokasho o Tsukuro Pictures
These pictures are used in
‘Kyokasho o Tsukuro Classroom Activities’
. There are 458 black-and-white pictures. They are divided into seven categories: ‘grammar and sentence patterns’, ‘verbs and adjectives’, ‘school’, ‘life’, ‘Japanese culture’, ‘animals and people’, ‘items, tools, food and drinks’.
